- Bentley S1
- The model S1 was built by Bentley Motors Limited from 1955 until 1959 when the S2 was introduced, with a new engine. Our S1 model was built in 1958.
- During this period, 2927 standard cars were produced, the only difference between the Bentley S1 and the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 1 is the design of the radiator and the badging.
- The engine is a straight 6, 4.9 litre, a direct descendant of the Rolls-Royce twenty, built in 1922. It was the last of the straight 6 engines used by Rolls-Royce / Bentley motors.
- The following models, the Bentley S2 and the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 2 both used the new V8, 6.6 litre engine.
- When new, the S1 cost £3,605, £1,803 of which was purchase tax. It was a firm favourite of the London elite and socialites, Lords and film stars.
- Having a top speed of 103 miles per hour and returning 16 miles per gallon, it was seen as a sporty version of the Rolls-Royce.
- Being purchased some 25 years ago for our wedding service, this car has also been used in Buckingham Palace and travelled to many Classic car meetings.
